Angry youth factions protested violently at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Kaduna this Friday over the imposition of  a new Imam by Kaduna state governor Nasir el-Rufai and the Emir of Zazzau according to reports.

The secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, was imposed earlier in October as the Imam of the Mosque to the discontent of many in the populace.

The youth disrupted the Friday Jumah prayer services not wanting the Imam to come to the Mosque till police came to fire tear gas to abate the angry crowds.

The prayers were finally conducted with Imam Ibrahim presiding.

Police were stationed all around the Sultan Bello Mosque as it was described to have been turned into a war zone in the gun-power Kaduna.

The confrontation has continued on the BBC service as people protest for “Justice at Sultan Bello” Mosque.
