Full Videos & Pictures of Mermaids Below
The Animal Planet mermaids are presented with a good dose of truth when two scientists are revealed in the show that claim they acquired physical remains of a mermaid that still hasn’t been explained. The scientific theories that are approached are how humans & primates could have similarities to mermaids in the ocean postulating that humans or primates themselves evolved out of the ocean. The theory in the Mermaid Body Found Documentary is called the aquatic ape theory.
Some potential items of interest from this theory are things that humans share with mermaids:
- Webbing between fingers (other primates don’t have this)
- Subcutaneous fat (insulating from cold water)
- Control over breath (humans can hold breath up to 20 minutes, longer than any other terrestrial animal)
- Loss of body hair (hair creates drag in water)
- Instinctive ability to swim (human babies are able to do this)
- A highly developed brain, which depends on nutrients provided by seafood
The Animal Planet Monster Week series dives into more facts and legend on why Mermaids could exist. Some tie ins relate back into old US Navy research studies doing sonar tests and potential mermaid call in the sea that was discovered by NOAA called, “The Bloop.” On the show you see interviews with people that claim they’ve found mermaids on the beach and have photos to prove it.
The show will be replayed on Monday 28th, 2012 from 7pm to 9pm ET/PT to close off the Monster Week extravaganza.

Amazing enough in the video above of the Mermaids in a large fish tank at a US Naval facility has the video end with a URL: www.believeinmermaids.com. Going to that website reveals the website has been seized by the DOJ and Homeland Security Investigations unit. The site looks like this:
However, with further investigation and by looking at the Source Code of the website in question we can see this is more of a publicity stunt done by Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. The website’s tagging and descriptions on the source code reveal that is more for entertainment than an actual Department of Homeland Security or DOJ confiscation of a website. Things like the title, “Mermaids are Real Real Evidence from Dr. Paul Robertson, NOAA researcher” and the title of the main DOJ Image, “Mermaid Legends-Mermaid Sightings-water creature” and the alt text of the image, “Mermaid legend is true, and there is proof of real live mermaids” make you believe that this site was keyworded to go along with the Mermaid’s Body Found series on Animal Planet.
You can view an image of what the source code of the Believe in Mermaids website is below:
Just to clear up any mermaid conspiracy theories that the Homeland Department of Security, the DOJ and the US Navy are covering up real mermaids by shutting down a website that reveals the truth, we did some further digging. If the Source Code example above didn’t clear any doubt with you that the website is created by Discovery Channel and Animal Planet the Domain Registry or WHOIS registration of the website BelieveInMermaids.com will clear that up. Below is an image of the information in the WHOIS of Believe in Mermaids dot com.
You can clearly see the domain was registered on October 12th, 2011 through Melbourne IT, LTD. The organisation owner name and address is:
Discovery Communications, LLC
One Discovery Place
Silver Spring, Maryland 20910
(240)662-7562
The DNS Servers read StableTransit.com which shows the website is ran on Rackspace
Here is a Screenshot of the actual WHOIS for BelieveInMermaids.com:
Now if we’re being up front here, if Discovery Communications was really trying to pull a fast one on you they could have made the site more real. It’s obviously all in fun to get you excited about their Mermaid Series and spread chatter about Mermaid conspiracies. Discovery could have easily registered the domain as a private registration and made the source code look more realistic with actual DOJ & Homeland Security information there.

The Teluk Bahang, Penang Malaysia Mermaid Found On Beach
On the northewest part of Penang Island in Malaysia is a fishing village that is called Teluk Bahang. There is a popular dam in the area called Teluk Bahang Dam and close next door is a popular luxury resort called Mutiara Beach Resort. It was in the Teluk Bahang fishing village that on the coast in the beach brush a mermaid was photographed and numerous pictures were taken.
A website built on Google’s site builder released many of the pictures in series. This story goes back to August of 2006 when the photos started getting circulated to news outlets. A Chinese Newspaper ended up getting the Department of Fisheries contacted and they asked for the photos for further investigation. It email that went to the Chinese Newspaper was titled in the subject line, “Teluk Bahang Fisherman Found This! Newspaper Not Allowed To Publish?”
Sad enough, this mermaid fantasy seems to have been debunked by an eBay listing. At 40ana.blogspot.com they reveal that, “After searching through the internet, I found out that the pictures were actually from eBay. The seller in eBay claims that the creature was found in Fort Desoto Beach in Florida. The seller’s id is seamystery. The bid was closed on July 06. The circulation of the pictures in Malaysia only started in August. So this explains that the creature was never found in Teluk Bahang. However, the question still lies as in whether the creature is real or fake. The winning bidder is mysterymuseum. His feedback on eBay was “REAL GOLDEN Mermaid – A Million Dollar Attraction – MYSTERYMUSEUM.COM-A++++”” Thanks for busting that one Ana. Ebay has now pulled the auction since it was older than 90 days but if you keep looking you can find a lot of references to it. If you put the URL from the eBay auction into Google you’ll find all kinds of stories about this mystery mermaid, try this search.

We are still searching for more pictures & information on this buried mermaid, if you find any details on the story, let us know!
Chennai Mermaid / Tsunami Mermaid / Marina Wash Up Mermaid
This mermaid has been used and abused since 2003 in stories, email chains and many different hoaxes. It remains to be proven whether this mermaid was real or not but About.com does a pretty good write-up on the source of the different stories of this mermaid.
The Chennai Mermaid Email Message Explaining the Photos:
A dead mermaid was washed onto a Chennai beach after the Dec 26 tsunami. True or false?
THE plight of desperate sailors must have been a terrible one. Legend has it that in the 17th and 18th centuries, seamen on long and treacherous voyages became so sex-starved that they started seeing beautiful half-human, half-fish creatures that beckoned amid the sea spray.
These mermaids or mermen – depending on their gender – were also documented by 17th century naturalists like Dutchman Georg Eberhard Rumphius in books like The Curiosity Cabinet Of Amboina.
Among his factual drawings of the flora and fauna of Indonesia – Rumphius’ pet region – was a comely mermaid who was said to have lived a few days in a tub of seawater, mewing like a kitten.
So, when a widely circulating e-mail titled ‘Mermaid Found in Marina Beach, Chennai’ arrived in LifeStyle’s inbox last week, we expected to see attached photos of a gorgeous, topless nymph – much like actress Daryl Hannah in the 1984 movie Splash – languishing on a sandy beach.
Instead, they showed a frightening, dessicated sea creature with a monkey-like head and fish-like body. Equally disturbing were its protruding ribs, scales, claws and very dry white hair.
‘Believe it or not,’ read the undated and unsigned text. ‘Below are pictures of a mermaid found at Marina Beach in Chennai, India, last Saturday. The body is preserved in the Egmore Museum under tight security.’
Video of Mermaid Body Found On The Beach Dried Out
YouTube has it’s own crazy conspiracy videos. One of this was uploaded on September 5th, 2012 by a user named: bhatsumanth. The video is titled, “the most disturbing and shocking video THE REAL MERMAID BODY FOUND!!!! PARANORMAL” This video features a walk on the beach with a mermaid laying over some branches and debris on the beach laying in an upward position with flowing red hair. The red hair seems to throw this mermaid off as a true fake. However the body is pretty interesting looking and there is a tail fin that is dried up and pointing in the air. The video has garnered nearly 42,000 views on YouTube.
