Lawmakers Move To Impeach Nigerian President Jonathan; Do They Have The Mettle?

There are indications that members of the National Assembly may soon commence impeachment proceedings against President Goodluck Jonathan, following the invasion of the National Assembly by officers and men of the Nigerian Police allegedly on the orders from above.

The IGP, Suleiman Abba, had deployed Police men led by the FCT commissioner of Police who locked the Speaker of the House, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal out and tear gassed the Assembly Complex.
It was gathered that members of the opposition All Progressives Congress have collected no fewer than 120 signatures to commence the impeachment process against President Jonathan.
The lawmakers are said to be angry that the Executive is ridiculing the leadership of the House.

Meanwhile, the House has summoned the Inspector General of Police Mr Suileman Abba over the invasion of National Assembly by the police.

He is to appear before the House Committee on Police at 11 am tomorrow. Chairman House committee on Police Hon Usman Kunho said his committee will meet with the IG to unravel the reason for the invasion of NASS.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of sabotaging his own Administration’s war against Boko Haram on the altar of personal vindictiveness and political desperation, an action that is unbecoming of a self-respecting national leader.
