A group, De Servant yesterday called on the leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and other political parties to support the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, stop the rising criticism saying Jonathan is God sent.
According to the De-Servant, though the performance of President Goodluck is convincing enough to return him in 2015, the barrage of sponsored and selfish criticism by opposition groups and political parties have become too personal and worrisome to numerous supporters of the present administration.
The leader of the De Servant group, Engr. Kime Engozu, who spoke during a media interactive session at the Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), declared that the election of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as President of the country should not be considered a human accident but a divine decision for the attainment of infrastructural and human capital development.
Kime Engozu, who was supported by regional leaders and representatives including Keneth Bomo (South-South), Ibrahim Mustapha Lawali (South-West) and Benjamin Dawo Oloye (North Central), said the much awaited decision of President Goodluck Jonathan to re contest in 2015 is a civil duty that must be done.
“We felt we should call on the opposition groups and political parties to soft pedal and take a good and unbiased look at performance instead of selfish motive,” he said.
Engozu added that unlike past administrations in which the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was perceived to win at all cost, “the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has positioned the electoral system in such a way that the choice of the people, irrespective of political parties, wins. This was demonstrated in Ogun, Edo, Osun and Anambra states.
“Whereas we appreciate the emergence of virile opposition parties,we plead that they should be nationalistic and shun the politics of acrimony, blackmail, threats to National security and careless use of derogatory language.”
The group also acknowledged the constitutional right of Mr.President to seek re-election and any other person with similar or other ambition to contest without intimidation.
On the ultimatum issued by the Northern Elders Forum to President Goodluck Jonathan to either rescue the missing Chibok girls and end insurgency by October or forget his 2015 Presidential ambition, the group noted that the Northern elders have only succeeded in shifting blame.
“The state governors should be asked to produce the girls and not Jonathan,” he said.
