ABUJA – President Muhammadu Buhari was commended for appointing on Tuesday Brigadier-General Paul T. Boroh (rtd.) as the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme for former Niger Delta militants.

The former coordinator of the Programme, Kingsley Kuku, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Boroh as his successor.PT Boro

Brigadier-General Paul T. Boroh (rtd.) former Commandant of the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC) in Kaduna, the new coordinator hails from the Niger Delta region.

Until September 24, 2010, when he was moved to Kaduna under the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, Boroh worked in the Department of Administration at the Army Headquarters (AHQ).

He is taking over the responsibilities of the Programme from the former Special Adviser to President Jonathan on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku who also doubled as Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme.

A statement by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Femi Adesina said Boroh’s appointment is “expected to lead to the speedy resolution of recent hitches in its implementation such as the non-payment of outstanding allowances to ex-militants.”

Former coordinator of the Programme, Kuku, hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Boroh as his successor.

Kuku who spoke from his hospital in America on learning of the new appointment by President Buhari described the new coordinator as a seasoned administrator and soldier, for the post, instead of a politician.

He hailed the president for not entrusting the office in the hands of a politician.

Kuku however urged the new helmsman to hit the ground running to save the Amnesty Programme from avoidable challenges that could affect its beneficiaries, especially its students abroad.
