BREAKING: Unconscious Ebonyi NLC Chair Rushed To Hospital After Police Attack, Detention In Protest Clampdown

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ebonyi State chapter, Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor has been hospitalised at the emergency ward of the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (FETHA 2) after he was beaten up and arrested by the state police command during a rally on Thursday over increment in petroleum price by the federal government.

Nwafor, who sustained leg and hand injuries during the incident, slumped after he was released Friday by the police and was immediately rushed to the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

He was tear-gassed, beaten up alongside 20 other labour leaders, and thrown into a police hilux van and taken to the Ebonyi State Police Headquarters where he was detained  by operatives of the Command.

Speaking on his hospital bed on Friday, Nwafor decried the action of the police saying they were handled like common criminals.

He alleged that the labour leaders were indiscriminately attacked in their bus and their phones confiscated.
