Several political opponents and government officials have of recent been beaten and killed in Gombe, some by thugs and others by law officers.
Popular civil activist IG Wala alleges a plot by elements close to the state governor to kill him (IG Wala).
IG Wala said:
Some unscrupulous elements close to Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe have engaged some thugs to silence IG Wala by way of attacking him with the arms recently acquired purposes for elections on Saturday. The plan was hatched at the same building where the Governor was busy attending to his former school mates that paid him a visit yesterday.
The initiator of the attack (Name withheld), hinted others that he knows where IG Wala is putting up; the best they can do is to send some political dogs after him. Those that bought the idea, cautioned that Wala should not be killed. At that point, argument ensued and a recorder captured the entire discussion. Luckily, from the voices captured on tape, the individuals have been identified.
Unbelievably, few of those masterminding the attack are on a watch-list consisting of over 15 names forwarded to IG Police some few days ago and the Military Commandant in Gombe State.
