President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Tuesday for Liberia to mark the country’s 175th anniversary of independence.

Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, made the announcement in a statement on Monday.

He added that Buhari, who will be the Special Guest of Honor at the event, will join other world leaders and organizations in celebrating with the people of Liberia at the event, which has the theme “Fostering Unity, Protecting Our Peace for Development and Prosperity.”

The President is accompanied on his trip by Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Buhari is expected to return to the country later that day, Tuesday, after participating in the independence ceremony.

Nigeria played a key role in the early 1990s stabilization of the West African nation, leading to the establishment of democratic rule, and has continued to assist the country in a variety of ways, most notably through the Technical Aids Corps scheme.

In recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing support for the country’s development, President Buhari was bestowed with the Grand Cordon in the Most Venerable Order of Knighthood of the Pioneers of the Republic of Liberia in 2019.

PRESIDENT BUHARI ATTENDS THE 175TH ANNIVERSARY OF LIBERIAN INDEPENDENCE

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Tuesday for Monrovia, Liberia, to attend the country’s 175th independence anniversary celebrations.

The President, who will be the event’s Special Guest of Honor, will join other world leaders and organizations in celebrating with the people of Liberia at the event, which has the theme “Fostering Unity, Protecting Our Peace for Development and Prosperity.”

In 2019, President Buhari received the highest national honor in the country, the Grand Cordon in the Most Venerable Order of Knighthood of the Pioneers of the Republic of Liberia, in recognition of Nigeria’s ongoing support for the country’s development.
