Two dozen Republican senators have signed a letter to President Joe Biden stating that they will not vote to raise the debt ceiling unless the nation’s spending problem is addressed.
The legislators expressed their concerns “outright opposition to raising the debt ceiling in the absence of real structural spending reform that reduces deficit spending and restores fiscal sanity to Washington. The Senate Republican Conference’s policy is that “any increase in the debt ceiling must be accompanied by cuts in federal spending equal to or greater than the debt ceiling increase, or meaningful structural reform in spending, such as the Prevent Government Shutdown Act or the Full Faith and Credit Act.” We intend to stick to our guns on this one.”
