As one more bit of crazy news out of Borno state, the governor of the state, Kashim Shettima is being pressured to appoint a statesman indicted of embezzling pension funds, Abdulrasheed Maina as his deputy following the sudden death of Zanna Umar Mustapha.

In February of 2013, Abdulrasheed Maina, the then Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) Chairman fled Nigeria after being accused of embezzling pension funds, to escape prosecution by law enforcement agencies.

Maina was said to have misappropriated billions of naira in pension funds, which he claimed to have recovered from pension “thieves”. But the so-called recovery was found to be a scam in which he gathered funds from various banks and deposited them in chosen banks to make business off of the funds. The former pension boss was described to have fled to Saudi Arabia to escape the law.

In March of 2013, Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Services, Senator Aloysius Etok alleged that Maina offered him N5billion bribe.

Two “groups,” Biu Emirate Political Leaders and Youths Vanguard for the Promotion of Biu have promoted Maina across the news in highly paid publications.

We will keep you updated on the events in “that Borno.”
