In a statement, Canadian officials demanded that New York City Mayor Eric Adams “immediately” stop sending illegal immigrants across the border to Canadian soil.

According to the New York Post, Quebec Premier Francois Legault accused Adams of assisting illegal immigrants in entering Canada through a spokesperson.

“Any form of assistance to migrants crossing the border where it is strictly prohibited should cease immediately,” said Ewan Sauves in a statement.

The New York Post previously reported that the city government was purchasing bus tickets for illegal immigrants to travel to Plattsburgh, a city in upstate New York just 30 minutes from the Canadian border and 60 miles from Montreal.

According to Sauves, Canadian social services are being overwhelmed by migrants, and 39,161 illegal aliens crossed the border near Plattsburgh last year.

“No, we don’t send migrants to Canada!” Adams exclaimed to CNN’s Don Lemon. “That must be made clear!”

Republicans and other critics of Adams pounced on the news, branding him a hypocrite for condemning Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who had begun busing illegal immigrants from his state to New York City and other Democrat-led cities known as “sanctuary cities.”

Later, the mayor’s office issued a statement saying it was busing people to Canada, but it was different from what Texas did because it was not coerced.

Later, the mayor’s office issued a statement saying it was busing people to Canada, but it was different from what Texas did because it was not coerced.

“We are not coercing people to leave, we are not recommending or suggesting locations, we are not chartering buses, and we are not presenting any kind of false choice,” the statement said. “On public transportation, asylum seekers are only reticketed.”

According to NBC News, Canada, unlike the United States, does not pay for migrant shelters, but it does allow migrants to receive welfare and is more generous with work permits.
