Peter Ozo-Eson, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) has commended affiliates, members and civil society allies “for keeping faith” with the struggle against the decision of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to increase the price of fuel from N86.5 to N145 per liter.
In a statement titled “The Struggle Continues,” Mr. Ozo-Eson declared that the second day of the protests was progressing well. “Day 2, which started at Berger Roundabout this morning recorded improved success,” he stated, adding that the successful protests owed to the “unqualified commitment” of affiliates and other allies.
The NLC spokesman reaffirmed its members’ faith in the struggle, warning that the protesters would not allow any distraction to take them off the path of honor.
“We urge overzealous police personnel who arrested and detained some of our members in Ebonyi State to unconditionally release them immediately,” demanded the NLC’s general secretary. He also warned overzealous security personnel to respect the action of the protesters, noting, “This has been a peaceful protest and we intend to keep it so.” He stated that security agents “should do nothing reckless to escalate” the protests.
Mr. Ozo-Eson reminded workers and their allies that the protests will continue tomorrow. “The take-off point is Berger Roundabout. Please be there at 7 a.m.,” he implored.
