Overnight, riots and looting erupted in Marseille, France’s southern port city.
Marseille police claimed around 2 a.m. that they had made 88 arrests overnight of sometimes disguised and “very mobile” young people accused of robbing or attempting to plunder.
A large fire “linked to the riots” broke out in a supermarket, according to a police source.
According to police, looters also broke into a gun shop and stole weapons.

France was rocked for the fourth night in a row by riots, looting, and vandalism in response to the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old boy by police following a traffic check.
Fireworks were fired towards police and buildings, causing rubbish bins and vehicles to burn in cities around the country.
More than 1,300 people were arrested, according to the interior ministry.
Over 1,000 people were arrested on the fourth night of turmoil, as relatives and friends prepared to bury the 17-year-old who was fatally shot by police.
According to the Associated Press, France’s interior ministry claimed that 1,311 individuals were arrested as protestors battled with police again.
To try to put an end to the bloodshed, the administration sent 45,000 police officers around the country.
Despite President Emmanuel Macron’s call to parents to keep their children at home, street skirmishes between young protestors and police continued.
According to officials, around 2,500 fires were started and establishments were plundered.
