Boko Haram: Scores feared dead as insurgents attacks travelers along Maiduguri-Damboa road

Traders at the Post Office area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, deserted their shops on Saturday following a reported directive from security operatives.

Some of the traders, who spoke to DailyPost said they did not know the reason behind the order, except that there was rumour that the Boko Haram insurgents would attack some churches within the area on Sunday.

“I think the military is trying to ensure that no suicide bomber comes around the churches since tomorrow is Sunday”, Tijjani Saidu told DailyPost in Maiduguri.

Meanwhile, fighter jet was seen hovering around Maiduguri, the state capital following reports of a fresh terrorist attack along Maiduguri, Damboa road, where many travelers were said to have been killed and several others injured.

A taxi driver, who was carrying passenger to Molai, told DailyPost that the soldiers asked them to turn back as the road leading to Molai along Maiduguri, Damboa road was closed.

“I had to make a u-turn and take the passengers to town; I left them around Road Safety office; I don’t know how they are going to end up with the soldiers but the road was bad from the way the soldiers were speaking; I know something serious most have happened”, he said.

Also a resident of Damboa road G.R.A in Maiduguri told DailyPost that some residents, who left for a wedding ‘Fatiha’ reception in a convoy were attacked by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram insurgents at Damboa.

He disclosed that many people were killed during the attack.
