Fully Vaccinated Nigerian Professor Dies From Covid

  • Nigeria has only fully vaccinated under 1% of its population (1.4 million fully vaccinated of total 250 million population) and has a single digit covid daily death rate. The death of a vaccinated person is therefore significant as the vaccinated are a tiny minority


A fully vaccinated Nigerian professor, Bankole Oke has just died from COVID. Professor Oke who died yesterday morning had taken the two doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine being pushed in Africa.

Bankole Oke was until his death a Professor of Veterinary Anatomy and Member of the Governing Board of the University of Ibadan.

He was married to a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Gbemisola Oke, of the Department of Periodontology and Community Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, College of Medicine.

Born on March 31, 1953, Prof Oke obtained a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1977); Master of Veterinary Anatomy (1983) and PhD (1988) in Reproductive Biology.

He then joined the services of the University of Ibadan as Lecturer II in the Department of Veterinary Anatomy in 1980 and rose to become a full-time professor in 1996.

He was elected the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for two terms (1999-2003).

Prof Oke also served as a member of the University of Ibadan Council for two terms from 2007 to 2015, representing the Senate of the institution.
