Thousands of Nigerians today marched through at least two of Nigeriaâs largest cities demanding the release of at least 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram terrorist early this month.
The #BringBackOurGirls Protest saw Nigerians took to the streets to demand the government do more to rescue scores of girls abducted by militants more than two weeks ago.
Boko Haram terrorist seized about 230 girls in the dead of the night at a high school in the nationâs far Northeast Chibok in Borno State.
Armed men herded the girls out of bed and forced them into trucks on April 16 in the town of Chibok. The convoy of trucks then disappeared into the dense forest bordering Cameroon.
Following todayâs protest, police in Lagos shot at least 5 live rounds to disperse protesters who remain adamant and sat on the main road.
The protest swallowed the annual workerâs day rally which took place at the Onikan Stadium. The protesters guarded by police marched to the Onikan stadium to waylay the Lagos State governor Babatunde Fashola, who left the venue earlier. The protesters sang solidarity songs, demanding authorities do more to bring the abducted girls back home.
