A few hours ago today in Adamawa, the convoy of the governor of the State, Murtala Nyako was ferociously attacked by gunmen believed to be Boko Haram rebels.

According to reliable sources, the convoy was waylaid at Shuwari area of the State, as the governor was returning from paying a visit to victims of Boko Haram attacks a few days ago.

A source amongst the survivors told our correspondent that “it was like hell when bullets started flying from all directions from inside the bush. The attackers appeared well armed but our security detail returned some fire which enabled some of us to escape.”

The governor reportedly escaped in an escort vehicle and no casualties were reported as of press time.

This attack comes as Gov Nyako spoke yesterday speculating that there might be Boko Haram Commander hiding inside Nigeria’s national security structure and warned that there might be mass protests if the attacks are not contained.

Gov Nyako is not known to criticize Boko Haram attacks as a habit until recently. From when his State came under emergency rule, the Gov is noted to have instead criticized federal government each time Boko Haram attacked.

It is speculated that this attack may be related to his recent criticisms of Boko Haram.
