Ekweremadu; The Bad and The Ugly

by Alhassan Haruna Dambatta

I initially wanted to tag this rejoinder “Ekweremadu, Forging Theory and a House Full of Criminals”, believing in what former president Olusegun Obasanjo once said that Nigerian House of assembly is full of criminals. But the issue of Ekweremadu supervising a house that could not enact any single law beneficial to the Nigerians masses for the past six years really took my mind most.

That aside, Ike’s involvement in suggested and insinuated senate election that ushered Saraki of APC as the 8th senate president and Ike Ekweremadu of PDP as deputy should be a concern to   every Nigerian.

Many have suggested that, what took place in the election of both Senator Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu as president and Deputy president of the 8th house of the senate was nothing but a charade of criminality of the highest order perpetrated by the bunch of former PDP wolfs in APC sheep clothing.

Personally, my resolve has been tested as a Nigerian and presently i and many other Nigerians are in the awaiting mode, waiting for the outcomes of the police investigation into this faking of the rules of the house that have been used in the house since 2011. What is of surprise to Nigerians is not more than to see to the end of this Ekweremadu gate, perpetrated by some criminals who are neither friends to Nigeria but enemies who needs to be rooted out for Nigeria to prosper.

What do you expect from people who are only Nigerians when ever it is election time, who normally run to Nigeria to hide in a car boot for four hours in order to contest for political offices, this is because of the lucrative nature of holding these offices in Nigeria.

On Ekweremadu, many have suggested for his crucifixion on a stake at the market place, but others like me suggested otherwise, giving more weight to the need to give the police the armfull opportunity to investigate and report back to Nigerians within the one week time frame, the time frame was  chosen by the same police who many feels are going to be bias in favor of Ekweremadu, because many feels and believed that this man Ekweremadu will be left up the hook, but we say No, that only happened during the time of government of impunity but not the time of government of change.

A constitutional lawyer, Mr. Jiti Ogunye declared the election of Senators Bukola Saraki and Ekweremadu, as senate president and deputy senate president null and void. He further insisted that Nigerians are bothered because what transpired on Tuesday, 9th June, 2015 was a coup d’état against Democracy and also a coup d’état against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the rule of law.

Ekweremadu was reported by Punch newspaper last Thursday saying that Boko Haram insurgency had worsened under President Muhammadu Buhari. Ekweremadu who has been a presiding officer of the Senate under the PDP clueless administration could not stop Boko Haram, for the past 6 years, the insurgency persist under the past PDP administration and could not resolved it, but now Ekweremadu in his machinations expects it to be eradicated by
Buhari in six weeks.

In his back biting, Ekweremadu said “I was hoping that when we come back in the 8th Assembly, that I will work with our colleagues from the North-East to develop a plan of action that will help to rehabilitate that part of Nigeria. I feel so concerned about the suffering of our people from the North-East of Nigeria”. Ike is now saying he could do now what he could not do in six years, what a hypocrisy.

Now, Senators who served in the 7th Senate, have disowned the 2015 edition of the Senate Standing Orders as amended, the one used in the election of Saraki and Ekweremadu, though, while these set of senators are part of those Nigerians who believed forgery has taken place, Ekweremadu on the other hand spoke through his Special Adviser on Media, Uche Anichukwu, on a Ray power radio and insisted that deputy Senate President, Ike
Ekweremadu,  was not a party  to the amendment of the 8th Senate Standing Rules, saying he was no longer a senator when the rules were made.

Good, the police should start from there, Ekweremadu can lead the police to who and who made such illegal amendments that only succeeded in upholding criminality. The people of Nigeria will not forgive anyone who formed part of these people who are only after what could lead to the thwarting of the collective resolve of Nigerians.

IGP Arase should equally put it behind his mind that Nigerians are now wiser than ever and will not accept any shanigagian arranged injustice, what Nigerians rather expects from IGP Arase is to fully investigate these issues and bring to notice of Nigerians the true details of what transpired at the time.

While Nigerians already have their verdict concerning this treacherous act of selfishness that only dwarfed Nigerian progress. Ekweremadu and his like, if found guilty by a competent court of law should be sent to preside over the injustice of Boko Haram on Nigerians in sambisa forest.

For IGP Arase, this will remain a trial of his impartiality, and it will remain the antidote needed to safeguard his continuity as a substantive IGP.
