Violence erupts at the premises of the National Assembly today as policemen and SSS operatives stopped the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwa, from entering the legislative chamber.

Security operatives sealed off all entry points leaving only one entrance open to members. The tear-gassed speaker was shielded by about forty members of the House from being whisked away by security operatives.

Honorable members across party line and national divide, with the aide of staff members finally made their way into the Chamber after forcing the door open.

It could be recalled that the Speaker called for special session today to enable the House consider President Goodluck Jonathan’s request that the National Assembly extend emergency rule in three northeast states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe hit by Boko Haram insurgents.

Early Thursday morning, a large number of SSS personnel took over the National Assembly complex and sealed off all entry points leaving only one open where everyone going in is thoroughly frisked and many, turned back.
