Take Military Action Now to Rescue Our Girls, #BringBackOurGirls tells FG – NewsRescue.com

By Emmanuel Elebeke

ABUJA — One hundred and twenty days after the Chibok school girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, the BringOurGirls group, yesterday, challenged the Federal Government to take military action to rescue the girls.

The group said the call became necessary since it had become clear that Federal Government cannot negotiate with the abductors because of the belief that it did not have what the sect was demanding in return for the release of the girls.

The group made the call, yesterday, after marking the 111 days of its sit-out protest campaign at the Giwa Park, Asokoro, Abuja.

The group maintained that the excuse by the Federal Government that a “military operation will endanger the lives of the girls is not tenable because as the situation is, their lives are already endangered as they remain in captivity.”

Speakers after speakers, who spoke at the occasion, stressed the need for government to explore other means of rescuing the girls including engaging the vigilante and hunters in Borno in the rescue efforts.

The group, which vowed to intensify effort to put pressure on the Federal Government to rescue the abducted girls said, though, “it is a big sacrifice to engage on their daily sit-out programme, it is worth even more than all they can give for the cause they so much believe in, insisting that they will not give up until the girls are rescued and brought back home alive.

“Federal Government should be ready to take military action to rescue our girls since they can’t negotiate because of the belief that they do not have what the sect is demanding in return for the release of the girls.

“The excuse that a military operation will endanger the lives of the girls is not tenable because as the situation is, their lives are already endangered as they remain in captivity,” said the group.
One of the group members, who decried what he called the slow approach of the government to rescue the girls said: “I can die a thousand times for my daughter and it is the reason I keep coming. I won’t stop so that my daughter’s daughter doesn’t suffer a similar fate  tomorrow.

“We must continue because this must be the turning point. Nigerians have become selfish, hypocritical and unconcerned about what happens to their neighbour. We have to start speaking with our families in other parts of the world in time as we prepare to scale up, especially as regards marking our milestone days.”

Another member of the group, Habiba also vowed to come out for the girls until they are found said, “I stopped coming for a few days because results weren’t coming out of our efforts, but today, I  turned up and I am happy to meet people who are still standing for our Chibok girls. I encourage us to keep standing and demanding for the rescue of our girls.”

The group further lamented the recent report that Cameroon has stopped its military from sharing intelligence with the Nigerian military and warned against the negative effects the action would have on the rescue mission of the Nigerian military.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian former Head of State, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, (rtd) had earlier warned the President not to negotiate with Boko Haram over the Chibok Girls, even as he said a military action will endanger the lives of the girls.

On the other hand, the presidential aide on Niger Delta affaires, Kingsley Kuku said though the girls were kidnapped,  the leaders in the north haven’t done enough to intervene in the matter.
