ABUJA â Members of the House of Representatives, yesterday ,mandated its committee on security to invite the National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd, the Minister of Defence, General Aliyu Gusau, rtd, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to appear before the House and explain what led to last weekâs killings of Nigerians in Zamfara State.
In a motion sponsored by Representative Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, PDP, Zamfara, the House also appealed to the defence ministry to âconsider locating an army barracks in the affected local governments to forestal the recurrences of such killings.â
The House in plenary also passed another motion sponsored by Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo ,PDP, Nasarawa, urging relevant authorities to hasten the construction of a military barracks in Doma Local Government of the state in view of last weekâs killings of Fulani herdsmen allegedly by soldiers in the state.
On the Zamfara killings, the House directed security agencies in the country to âfish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to justice to serve as deterrence to others.â
It also directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to deliver relief materials to the distressed citizens of the affected villages, just as it resolved âto send a committee to sympathise, see first-hand, the damage done and report back to the House.â
Gusau in his motion said that the said killings in Zamfara were carried out by âsuspected Fulani herdsmenâ who âoperated freely for about four hours, shooting at children, traders, vigilante, community leaders and clerics.
